“Reading this book was like looking into a mirror of my history”..[..]
The Excerpt ::
Sometimes, its best to let somebody else do the talking. – This is a review of ‘Mastering the Mental Game of Trading‘ posted by a veteran trader who worked alongside me as a Trader in his early days.
He titled it: ‘A Masterpiece For The Ages’ ” I’m in my 31st year as a trader who has also had the privilege of trading alongside Steve in yesteryear. I’ve made every mistake you could possibly make in trading and unraveled and been owned and self sabotaged and all of these several times over. (I’ve also got a bit right, hence the longevity). Reading this book was like looking into a mirror of my history. Very uncomfortable at times as all the anecdotes were relatable: I have been Yukimo, Tony, Eduardo and Spencer. Yet I wish I was more like Lisette (and Steve during his Bund trade!).
Steve acts like a true friend and companion as he guides you through his Performance Process Cycle (very akin to Virgil guiding Dante through the Underworld!). Every quadrant is a map and a structure designed to combat chaos, trauma and on-tilt behavior that arises from loss of process trading. It teaches how to stay in optimal trader state and how to ultimately preserve mental and financial capital. The ‘fertile void’ and letting go section is so important for those that get schooled regularly by the market. Quietening the ego is a huge underlying premise of the book.
The book is written beautifully and at captivating pace, never dull (and traders know when to ‘bore off’ someone), with so many stories and not just trading ones. Topics such as ‘the bargains’ and ‘psychological contracts’ we make with ourselves, ‘radical uncertainty’, ‘resulting’ and ‘self actualization’ are discussed succinctly. All concepts we think we know about but now here is a proper guide on how to benefit from them. The ultimate goal here is that you and your true self should , via process and purpose and presence, be your best backer.
He guides you through ways to increase your human potential and to exercise self compassion and to spend more time in the ‘letting go’ phase and the importance of this. (Again the ‘fertile void). This truly is a wonderful read. It’s like someone has seen every mess you’ve made and has put a plan down for you that you can adapt and help you own your path , quieten the ego and bring out your best and true potential and purpose. As well as a plan for recovery when it all goes wrong. It’s not a one time read. It is to be referenced regularly for the rest of your career. Given that I have known Steve personally and for a very long time, I couldn’t be more proud of him for this sublime work.”
